Wolf Cubs: Looking through Lenses
Spend a morning walking along the trails with a pair of binoculars and a magnifying glass to observe different species of flora and fauna. As Ruthven Park hosts one of the three bird observatories in Haldimand County, learn how to extract birds from mist nets, band, and identify different species as part of your experience. Become an honourary bander by helping to release the birds back into nature.

Wolf Cubs: Winter Walk
Ruthven Park provides a home to many different species of plants and animals year round. Enjoy a winter hike and discover tracks, observe animals in action, and discuss how animals survive in the colder weather. Make casts of the tracks and enjoy a walk in our winter wonderland.

Scouts: Stewards for the Environment
Approximately 15 species at risk can be found at Ruthven Park. These include both species of flora and fauna. Become stewards for the environment and learn what can be done to protect these species and their home. Participate in bird banding, a river bank clean-up, and help remove invasive species.

Scouts: Species in Southern Ontario
The Carolinian Life Zone is only found in the southwestern section of Ontario. Even though this zone accounts for only 1% of Canada’s landmass, there are more species of plants and animals found here than anywhere else in the country. Over 2200 species of plants alone have been identified in this area. Spend time learning about the different species that live in this rich natural area. Discover simple methods to identify different species and participate in a species survey.
